Restoring Hope - California Restoration
The Restoring Hope Project harnesses new media tools, user generated content, and green journalism to visualize the impact restoration and conservation projects have in protecting natural ecosystems. As a result of the “Stop Work Order” that was issued in Winter of 2008, over 5,000 restoration projects were halted and left unfunded. It is clear that the State, the legislators, and the public at large do not understand the critical value of resource protection and conservation. The Restoration Video project will bring restoration into the 21st century, help individual projects promote their work, and be used as a way to drive funding sources to the many projects that have been stalled.
Cage Free Productions is partnering with Earth Island Institute to document and share the stories of those working to restore the beauty of California’s natural environment. Once uploaded to an on-line marketplace, the videos will tell the dynamic story of restoration work and the critical role restoration plays in the protection of water quality, soil conservation, habitat areas, and educational opportunities in nature.
The on-line marketplace of restoration projects, highlighted by video, photo, and user generated content will be a resource for individuals, foundations, corporations, agencies, mitigation efforts, and investors to identify projects for funding. Ariana Katovich, Director of Earth Island Institute’s Restoration Initiatives program and Co-Producer of the Restoration Video project explained, “The work of this video project comes just in time to tell the story of restoration’s role in protecting the natural infrastructure of the State of California.”
